Tile is one of the most popular choices for flooring. The reason why people choose Tile as their number # 1 choice is that Tile has a very natural look that is very durable. It is also very low maintenance. Tile holds up very well in areas with high foot traffic and works very well in doorway entries where water and dirt are brought into the home. When you chose a stone floor they basically come in one design but when you chose tiles, there is so much more of a choice.
There are great design patterns to choose from, the size of the tiles make a huge difference depending on what room you are putting them in. The texture can be smooth or raised and choosing the perfect color for that room in your home can make tile a great choice for flooring. There are actually 10 different types of tiles to choose from. There is Terra Cotta, Quarry, Porcelain, Terrazzo, Mosaic, Saltillo, Pavers, Ceramic (which is the most common), Cement and Brick.
There are actually 5 categories of tiles that pertain to texture. You have the Light Traffic Tiles; these tiles should be used in bathrooms. Medium Traffic Tiles can be used in hallways or bathrooms. Medium Heavy Traffic Tiles can be used any place inside the home. Heavy Traffic Tiles can be used in door entry ways and the kitchen where most traffic occurs. Lastly there is the Extra Heavy Traffic tile which can be used anywhere. It is the most commonly used tile.
